The most common fault I find in all standards of golfers is bad technique in the set up and grip. While making a balanced set up with a good grip doesn't guarantee a good golf swing it goes a long way to helping the swing improve. With this in mind I have dedicated the first eight weeks to the set up and grip. Good luck and hard practising.

Alingment of Feet and Shoulders Working Together

Open Setup(dia 1) Short Turn(dia 2) Closed Setup(dia 3) Over Turning(dia 4)
Unlike last week, the hips and shoulders are shown open and closed but aiming in the same direction. This allows the hips and shoulders to work together more consistently. Although wrong this is a better fault to have as it is easier to correct. If your stance is open (dia 1) this will encourage you not to make a full hip and shoulder turn (dia 2). The closed stance shown in (dia 3) encourages you to over turn as in (dia 4). Making a square body alingment to the target helps to dictate the amount of turn you make and the positioning of the body when you hit the ball.

This lesson will be followed up next week with a seven week series of basic fundementals of the golf swing.
